A Few WIP's

A rainy day every now and then is great for playing in the sewing cave. These 120 blocks are ready to be assembled.

My collection of selvages is about to overflow.  Time to make more selvage blocks.

The backing and fleece are ready for basting the John Deere quilt.

And then I must build a quilt front for this panel.

I'm working on finishing this pink quilt in October.

I think it is safe to conclude that I have overcome my linear "one project at a time" approach to sewing!

A New Quilt Project

All this talk of low volume quilts has motivated me to cut into my little collection.

Add in a little blue and yellow and I have this lovely pile of blocks ready to become my first low volume quilt.

Now that the weather has started to chill, I hope to have some finishes to share soon!

Tula Blocks #71 to 81

A couple of months ago (honestly) I cut the fabric for these blocks.  Today I finally got around to sewing the blocks.  These represent most of the square blocks from Tula Pink's City Sampler book.

 So many beautiful Tula fabrics!  Really I don't have a plan for all these crazy blocks.  I have faith that it will all come together...somehow.

Beyond the elegant simplicity of this block, I love the colors.   It deserves a full quilt in this colorway.

Even when the sun isn't shining it is beautiful outside and tremendously distracting from sewing.

Back to Sewing!

It is wonderful to be back to sewing. Taking a little break does reinvigorate the sewing mojo! There are a few projects in the plans. The fabric has been ordered and the plans have been sketched out.

I'm back!

I am slowly getting back into the sewing swing of things.  Remember the fun embroidered blocks my sister in law made for her grandson?  After some research I found some John Deere fabric and have completed the twin size quilt top.

The fleece fabric for the backing has been ordered to finish this quilt for an adorable little man!

This is a little table topper made from scraps of one of my favorite quilts.  I think it works fine in the dining room with the new light fixture.

October is my favorite month.  I hope you are off to a good one!

States #28 and #29

Hello friends!  I am back from an amazing 17 day trip that included:

• 12 different hotels
• 5 states
• two new states to cross off our 50 State project 
• 767 pictures.

We landed in San Francisco just long enough to pick up the rental car and head north up the scenic and adventurous Route 1.













Continuing up the California coast, we drove through the Avenue of the Giants on the way to Idaho (#28).

The 6 hour detour to Crater Lake National Park was well worth it. Spectacular (I've done no editing to these pictures.)

Heading west to the beautiful Oregon coast including fun in the sand dunes.

 Astoria is lovely and fun.

 After a few days in Portland, we ventured to Mt. Hood.

 Then we took a couple of days to experience the Columbia River Gorge staying in Stevenson, Washington.

 Then off to Idaho (state #29) to beautiful Coeur d'Alene with adventures that included hiking, renting a boat and a sea plane ride.

Leaving the west coast and flying back to Boston necessitated a stop in Chicago, IL to see our son, who valiantly sat through all 767 pictures of the trip.  

It was indeed a successful trip full of diverse and dramatic scenery, tasty local food and beverage, interesting people (both local and fellow tourists) and new adventures.  Now, it is time to dust off the sewing machine and make some progress on those WIP's and new projects rolling around in my mind.  I can't wait!!

Life is Good

...even if it does not include any sewing right now.  I can count in minutes the amount of time I have spent sewing in the last month.  And September is not going to be much different.  It has been a wonderful summer.

 Family gatherings, lots of company at the lake, hikes, much time spent on the water...

....beautiful weather, various charity events, major family milestones, good food and beverages.

We will be traveling in September, leaving soon for California, Oregon and Idaho.  You can be assured there will be quilt shops included in the itinerary.
