I started this quilt top in 2019 before my house was flooded. In coronavirus time it's now finished. The pattern is Celtic Crossing from Lo & Behold Stitchery. I love the diversity of Irish chain quilts and this one is a simple and clever version.
One of my sewing goals for 2019 was to not purchase any fabric but then I needed some retail therapy during the months I could not sew due to the aforementioned flood and oh well. However, I did start several quilts with materials exclusively from my stash including this one.
The backing fabric came from a big bundle of fabric my mother in law gave me. And just going to brag a moment about the pattern match on the back. I'll never be this good again.
Even the batting was patched together from odds and ends pieces. Straight line quilting and a hand sewn binding for the finish!
Keep smiling!

Finished - Two Quilts from One Jelly Roll
In the early days of my quilting adventure, I purchased too many jelly rolls (2.5" strips) and charm packs (5" squares). At the time I did not have much of a fabric stash (or collection as we call it in this house) and those pre-cuts were a great way to learn piecing while developing an eye for color. To be honest, I'm still very tempted by fat quarter bundles but anything smaller I avoid. One of my first fabric purchases was a jelly roll of Boho by Urban Chicks. It sat on the shelf for six years waiting for the right pattern.
And with the help of some IG inspiration, I think I found the right one! This is a tutorial from Missouri Star Quilt Company and in addition to the cool effect from simple piecing, it uses most of a jelly roll and requires no additional fabric. Perfect!
I had fun quilting this one.
But there were a few strips remaining so I assembled this little quilt with a fabric added for the border.
A skill I have been wanting to work on is hand quilting. This seemed like the perfect sized quilt to practice on.
I'm quite pleased with squeezing out two quilts from one jelly roll. Added to the pile of quilts to donate! Linking up with Michelle's weekly Beauty Pageant (and she also has a fabulous jelly roll free pattern!).
Hope everyone is keeping safe and trying to smile during these most interesting times!
