Finished - Chevron Baby Quilt and Basket

OK, after the last post on my batik quilt, I owe you this post.
I have had my eye on a couple of patterns for a while, waiting for the right occasion to give them a try.  We are so fortunate to have a wonderful relationship with my daughter-in-law's family and were thrilled to hear her sister was expecting her first child.  I wanted to make something for the baby shower (even though the new Mom is a quilter).  Fabric, mostly from my stash, was selected to accompany the new yellow and gray nursery.

The pattern is Chevron & On by Megan Bohr in Quilty magazine.

I've had great success with Noodlehead's patterns and this divided basket pattern turned out to be another well written, very doable project!  There will definitely be more of these in my future.

The new Dad is a big fan of rubber duckies so of course I played that card.

Debating the backing fabric, the great folks at Fabric Corner in Arlington, MA suggested flannel.  This was my first time using flannel on a backing.  Little yellow and gray trains!  Adorable!
I pre-washed the backing and it is already SO soft.   I can imagine how lovely this will be when washed a few times!

And I love that the polar bear is holding onto the basket in the nursery!
Can't wait to hug you Julia!

  2. I been hankering to do a yellow and grey, and here you are, just pushing me even more in that direction ;-) Where will I ever find the time?!
Another lovely finish, Kathy! (I think the chevron pieces look like cat heads :-) and of course, I adore all of your fabric choices!! (sooo much prettier than your batiks ;-) though, since you say they are so soft, I may have to consider using them on occasion...)
Glad you are sewing through your stash ~ less to pack :-)

  5. Hi! I found your blog from your link on Finish It Friday at Crazy Mom Quilts. What a sweet space you have! I have been wanting to order and try the pattern for the divided basket for a while. Your finish is inspiring me to order it again! I know for a fact that it is going to be so useful for a new parent. Babies have a lot of little stuff that needs a basket! And your quilt and color choices are so sweet - like warm sunshine. Baby is going to be wrapped and so loved! Thank you for sharing!

  10. Love your quilt and basket! I have made that quilt before for a baby gift. Now I wish I would have made a Noodlehead basket to coordinate with the quilt! The gray and yellow is a perfect combination. The little ducky fabric is soooo cute!
