The picnic basket is insulated and collapses for easier storage.
I have been admiring equilateral triangle quilts so I thought I would give it a try. Lesson learned: cardboard templates do not hold up as well as the plastic ones.
For the back of the quilt I made an attempt at paper piecing a gemstone emerald for the May birthstone. Earlier this year I found this amazing quilt by {no} hats in the house and just loved the colors and the gemstones on the back. Her pattern was easy to follow; I am just not sure about all my color choices. I think this looks more like a compass than a gemstone, but, oh well, I had fun practicing my paper piecing.
I quilted 1/4" on either side of all seams with the walking foot; this created a nice pattern on the back.
The picnic basket was filled with blueberry themed goodies....blueberry wine from a local vineyard, blueberry preserves and wine glasses with blueberry napkins. I made the napkins from the remaining fabric and used this tutorial for the nice mitered corners.
It's Friday...linking up with Amanda Jean's Finish It Up Friday!
What a nice gift!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great gift. Triangles are on my list as well.
ReplyDeleteHow clever! I love that all the items tie together with a theme. I just might have to steal this idea.....
ReplyDeleteI love it!!! What a great gift idea ;) And of course I am biased but am loving the gemstone - it may be slightly lighter than an emerald but I am totally seeing the sparkle from here!
ReplyDeletewhat a nice gift basket you put together! your triangle quilt is wonderful! your points sure matched up nicely! and i love how you used the paper pieced block on the back.
ReplyDeletethanks for linking up to finish it up Friday!
As always, your quilt is gorgeous! The emerald is pretty awesome too, green is my favorite color and my hubby's birthday is in May and one of my favorite gems is an emerald so I might have a biased opinion too!
ReplyDeleteKathy! What a novel way to practice something new like paper piecing...than to make a piece to accent a back like you did!!! (Love the picnic basket....looks like it fits perfectly on a kayak!!!)
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun backing for your sweet gift. I love the emerald. It is my birthstone too.
ReplyDeleteLove that back and know it was a lot of work but it looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely restful colours; just right for a spring picnic.
