As far as the knitting I think it...Beautiful quilt! As far as the knitting I think it looks great for a beginner - your tension on that swatch looks really nice. Much as with quilting, I think materials really do matter and you should use the best you can so if you're not using wool (which has nice stretch and is easy on the hands) I would recommend picking some up.
